Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine for PMS and PMDD

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) Relief.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that at least 85 percent of menstruating women have at least 1 PMS symptom as part of their monthly cycle. Most of these women have fairly mild symptoms that don’t need treatment. Others (about 3 to 8 percent) have a more severe form of PMS, called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Acupuncture and Herbal medicine can help!

A systematic review of studies concluded Acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments for premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder showed a 50% or better reduction of symptoms compared to the initial state. In both acupuncture and herbal medical interventions, there have been no serious adverse events reported, proving the safety of the interventions while most of the interventions provided over 50% relief of symptoms associated with PMS/PMDD.

When working with Premenstrual concerns, Miriam advises her patients to come in 2x/week for 4-6 weeks to effect significant change in a woman’s Menstrual cycle and alleviate the associated symptoms. Patients experience relief in their first 1-2 visits, but often require the full 4-6 or 6-12 visits to create the necessary hormonal balance. Herbal medicine is often utilized.
